Art Gallery Visit #2

Step 1: The Exhibition
1. What is the title of the exhibit?

2. What is the theme of the exhibition?

Nature and everyday items that are seen throughout one's life.




Step 2: The Gallery
1. What type of lighting is used?
Indoor ceiling lights
2. What colors are used on the walls?

White walls.

3. What materials are used in the interior architecture of the space?

Wood, bronze, and ceramics.

4. How is the movement of the viewer through the gallery space?
Free flowing and similar to the view of one roaming outdoors. 





Step 3: The Artwork

1. How are the artworks organized?
The pieces are arranged in a way that interacts with other pieces. 

2. How are the artworks similar?
They all are things people are familiar with. The every day fruits, birds, packing peanuts, and nature itself.

3. How are the artworks different?
Some art work is more about nature while others are playful reminders of life's silly secrecy's.

4. How are the artworks framed?
The artworks are not framed they are positioned perfectly to cast shadows and memories.
5. How are the artworks identified and labeled?
All artwork is untitled.
6. What is the proximity of the artwork to each other?
About a couple of feet away from each other.

What did you think of visiting the Gallery and purposefully looking at the exhibition from a different perspective - the physical space, the architecture, theme, etc.?

I think that the gallery visit was marvelous! I viewed this exhibit as unique and one to remember. The artist had a funny way of implementing cute scenarios of children eating corn and a deflated balloon. The element of  light that was used to cast specific shadows were exhilarating. The use of texture was also admired in the wood carvings that looked as if a beaver or animal gnawed on them and they were just about to fall. The space that was given for each piece was carefully planned out and executed very well. The principles of rhythm were interesting to view the carefully carved out "teeth" marls of animals on wood. The unity of the exhibit was interesting and brought a bit of tension while walking through it and viewing each piece after the other. I viewed this exhibit with the memories I remembered when I was a child and my corn looked half chewed and cookies that were left out all night, with crumbs everywhere.

Module 8 Video Reviews


1. Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above.
I chose to watch Late Gothic Art and Architecture: England, 1400-1547 because I enjoy the gothic architecture and art works. The buildings included realistic sculptures and artwork as well as intricate vaulted ceilings. 


2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

BBC How Art Made The World 1 - More Human Than Human: The key concepts that I learned fromt his film were the origins of the Egyptian art form. The unrealistic proportions that were driven by primal instincts and fertility. The two-dimensional paintings were explained very well and the reasons why they painted that particular way. Art was exaggerated in the beginning because of

Late Gothic Art and Architecture: England, 1400-1547: The key concepts I learned were about pointed vaulted ceilings. The look in very important and displays unique attributes.They used ribs to reinforce the structure.

3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos help add to the readings in the textbook. The different styles of vaulted ceilings and structures.


4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I really enjoyed the films, especially the BBC guy's demo of how the Egyptians created their art and why.

I agree with all of the elements listed by the artist. She did a great job with this project. Each element and principles were creativity executed and well photographed.
Did you see other elements and principles in the images?
Yes, the dice in the"forms" photo could also pertain to the element of "space". The book in the "line" picture could also be used in a "value" photo.

3. When looking at Project #2: Where there any images in the Peer Blogs the same as your own?

I think that the process of reading my peer's reflections are inspiring and interesting. It has helped me understand the different viewpoints that other people have. Art can be seen and interpreted in many different ways. I find it interesting to experience that.

Yes, I find this to be very valuable to my learning because it allows me to develop skills that I was not aware of. Such as viewing art from a different viewpoint as well as learning how it effects others.

Yes I agree with all the elements and principles that this artist listed except for the shape picture. It was very similar to the lines picture.

Yes, in the texture picture it could also be seen as lines. The contrast picture could also be considered balance.

Yes

Logo Design

Logo

1. Discuss what you thought about creating your logo. When I was creating my logo I thought about things that represent me as an individual. I also tried incorporating artistic techniques to make it more personal and detailed. I brainstormed ideas about beauty, love, power, knowledge, life, happiness, and strength.


2. Describe the process: creative thinking skills and ideas you used in the logo creation. The process that I went through to create my logo was hard. First I brainstormed ideas of what I would look like on paper. Then I also tried to keep it sweet and simple. I tried finding ideas that would associate with me, and this was probably the hardest part. I wanted to make it well proportioned and balance. I as aiming for the viewer to have to move their eyes across the whole log to get the idea of what it means. People are faced which choices each day, sometimes good or bad.  It all comes down to the choices we make. In my logo she is faced with bad and only her face (that is exposed to the bad) is red. The yellow that is coming out from her represents positive energy. People associate yellow with bright and successful days. The meaning of the gun and bomb pertains to the idea that there will always be bad days, and it is up to us to chose how we left those negative things bring us down. The picture of the electron orbit is part of what I enjoy learning about, and we are all made up of atoms. The word "choice" written in her hair can express that people are responsible for their own outcome. 


3. What was the most important discovery you made in the creation of your logo? The most important discovery I made was the amount of creativity I truly have. People are often impatient ad was results now, but one is more likely to have a better outcome if they brainstorm and premeditate their work. Visualizing what you want to stand for is increasing important while making a logo. 


4. What is the most important information you learned from watching the videos, powerpoint, and reading material  for this project? What is your opinion of the videos? The most important thing that I have learned from this is the high amount of work and brain power that it takes to create a big message with a little picture/symbol. The reading materials for this project were very informative, however I enjoyed the films better. The videos helped more visually and the readings helped to understand in my mind.

Gallery Visit 1

Art Gallery Visit #1

1. Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why?

Franz Kline, New York, N.Y., Oil on canvas, 79 x 57 inches, 1953

This piece of artwork immediately attracted my attention. The deep contrast from such dramatic colors. These colors aren't subtle they are sharp and pronounced. Black and white are such opposites that when they are put together they can create a powerful message. This painting show me strength and power.

This painting has also made an impact on me because of its opposite appeal from the first. The bright vivid colors and busy design make me amazed by it. The possibilities of what this picture could represent are amazing to me. The style of this painting is enjoyable and I can't help but picture a party going on. 





2. Which artworks do I feel a connection with? Why?


                             Clifford Still, November 1950 No. 2, Oil on canvas, 1950

This artwork is my favorite out of them all. I feel such a deep connection with this piece because of the way it was painted. To me, this painting has such a light outline, if you look at it for a little bit. This reminds me of energy and science. If you have ever been on a road trip and look at the hills that are covered in trees, and when you stare at the trees that are near the blue sky, you will end up seeing this energy field.

I feel more connect to Pablo Picasso this course then I have been my whole art education. I connect with this piece greatly because of the uniqueness and also its representational style. The shapes that everyone sees a woman to be. I find this very inspiring.







3. Which artworks would I like to learn more about? Why?


          Salvador Dali, The Transparent Simulacrum of the Feigned Image, Oil on canvas,

This artwork and his other famously known piece "The Persistence of Memory", I would like to learn more about. The style and technique that he uses can be very powerful messages. I have always been a fan of the melting watch.

I do not know too much about this piece. I see this everyday on my drive into Buffalo State College. When I had first seen this years ago I thought it was ok, but now I would really like to learn more about it, and its meaning.
